Havaianas x ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Styles You Can Shop (So Far)


At the world premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” landing in theaters on May 1, director David Frankel joked that the movie had absolutely no marketing budget to speak of. Of course, the incessant headlines surrounding its press tour and the plethora of brand collaborations we’ve been privy to these past few months — from fringe skirts at Walmart to Tweezerman nail files — paint a different picture. As for the latest initiate of the sexy, editorial-chic universe helmed by Miranda Priestly? It’s Brazilian flip-flop giant Havaianas, who’s just announced an all-new, “The Devil Wears Prada 2″—themed shoe line for spring called the Puffed Family.
Operating under the slogan “if it’s not heels, it’s Havaianas,” the capsule encourages shoppers to kick off their Manolos and treat their feet to something even more statement-making (not to mention comfortable). It’s comprised of four distinct flip-flops — the Havaianas Puffed Up, Maxi Puffed, Over Puffed, and Luna Puffed — all of which have something “groundbreaking” to offer, as Priestly would say. Think puffed-up or else intertwining, serpent-like straps; height-happy, dual-layer outsoles; and the kinds of colorways that can transition you from “client meeting at Dior” to “first date” in no time (I won’t say more for fear of spoiling the plot of the iconic film’s second installment).

Clearly, these intentionally exaggerated silhouettes are nothing if not fashion-forward — putting the thong sandal trend that reigned supreme last summer back into the spotlight while giving you a carte blanche to be your most confident self, whether you’re an assistant or the head of the entire features department (it happened: I might’ve said too much).
We’re patiently waiting on the drop to arrive at havaianas.com, but, for now, you can also find your new warm-weather shoe rack staples over at Shopbop: where the Havaianas x Devil Wears Prada Over Puffed Sandal is selling in a red-hot shade that matches Andy Sachs’ signature lipstick in the 2006 “The Devil Wears Prada.” Additionally available at the womenswear retailer is the co-branded Slim Square Flip Flop, which has not been officially revealed by the circa-1962 destination but is equally worth your time: taking a model that has sold out at Havaianas every year like clockwork (Gigi Hadid even designed her own pair) and dolling it up with instantly recognizable motifs such as pitchfork-equipped heels, glasses, and handbags that every DWP fan will appreciate.

Apart from lacking a rounded toe, the Havaianas x Devil Wears Prada Slim Square Flip Flop reads more classic than its Over Puffed counterpart, which boasts puffy, knotted straps and a chunky, two-tiered sole. Its similarly startling red hue avoids all traces of predictable florals — noted, Miranda — and instead is bold enough to contrast aptly with everything from your light-wash, baggy denim to a peasant skirt outfitted in creamy white.

To promote this pivotal moment, Havaianas has been hosting activations across cities from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (the locations of its flagship stores) to Paris, Milan (figuring prominently in the second movie), and New York City. The collaboration took over billboards in Times Square, for instance, and is generating quite the buzz online. Most notably, Havaianas made sure the flip-flops walked “The Devil Wears Prada 2” NYC premiere’s red carpet alongside Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep: spotted on attendees like Brazilian fashion influencers Malu Borges and Gabb, as well as style blogger Leandra Medine Cohen.
