Here are Sunday’s latest updates from the U.S.-Iran cease-fire and Israel’s war with Hezbollah:
■ A Hezbollah explosive-laden drone killed an IDF soldier, whom the army named as 19-year-old Sergeant Idan Fooks, and wounded six others, four of them severely, the IDF said.
■ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Hezbollah is “eroding the cease-fire,” adding that Israel is striking Lebanon “with full force” in accordance with its understandings with Washington and Beirut.
■ Hezbollah said it struck Israeli forces in IDF-occupied southern Lebanon and northern Israel in response to “the enemy’s persistent violations of the cease-fire.”
■ U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iran can reach out to the United States if it wants to negotiate an end to the war between the two countries, adding that the talks will be done via phone.
■ President Isaac Herzog said he does not plan to rule soon on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pardon request and will instead try to launch mediation aimed at a plea deal in the premier’s corruption case.
■ Former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, who headed the 2021-2022 “government of change,” announced that they will merge their parties and run together in the 2026 election in a bid to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
■ Israel sent an Iron Dome air defense system to the United Arab Emirates early in the war with Iran, along with dozens of troops to operate it, Axios reported, citing two Israeli officials and one U.S. official.
