SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Have you ever just wanted to break something? Well, there’s a new place where you can, and you don’t have to pick up the pieces.
The Break Room in South Burlington is officially open and filled with stuff to smash. “We want to be able to be that safe, fun, healthy outlet,” co-owner Kerry Lyons explained.
Lyons said his family went to a smash room out of state last Father’s Day and had a smashing good time. They realized there wasn’t anything quite like it in our area and immediately began planning on how to change that. “We thought the Burlington market would be hungry for a place like this,” Lyons said.
You start off by suiting up in protective gear and heading into one of four smash rooms, already set up with many breakable things inside. You can choose an item to smash with, such as a bat or crowbar, and get to work. “It was super awesome,” customer Jess Snider, of Montgomery, said.
“Yeah, it was super nice, a good way to get anger and frustration out for sure,” Rebecca Allen, of Glover, said.
The items in the smash rooms come from various places like garage sales, thrift stores, and donations. There is an option to bring your own stuff to smash, too.
If you don’t desire destruction, there is also a paint room where you suit up and can splatter paint all over in a black-lit room, and a scream room with sound-dampened walls where you can verbally let it all out.
Costs range from $30-$100 per person, depending on the time slot and any add-ons you choose, such as more items to break. Lyons asks that you make a reservation ahead of time so the rooms are ready for you
So, whether celebrating or needing to release, there’s a new spot for it in Vermont.
