It was sometime during this unhappy union that Winifred also acquired the Dundonald Tiara. Featuring a motif of dog rose flower heads, buds and leaves, the tiara is set throughout with circular cut paste, the original stones having been donated to the church. It can be transformed into five segments and is cased by Streeter&Co of New Bond Street.
Despite living separately the majority of the time, the Cochranes had five children. The eldest two
remained childless, so it was not until their third, Lady Jean Cochrane, married Herbert Hervey, 5th Marquess of Bristol, that they had their first grandchild. Jean was a model and socialite who
appeared in the pages of Tatler, and although she eventually divorced Herbert on the grounds of
adultery, their one son and heir, Victor Hervey, became the 6th Marquess of Bristol.

In adulthood, Victor was accused of being the ringleader of a gang known as the Mayfair Playboys and was imprisoned in 1939 for stealing jewellery. After an accomplished life, Winifred died aged 64. Upon her death, Gwrych Castle was bequeathed to Prince George, later King George V, who declined the gift. The site subsequently fell into disrepair, having been sold in 1946 by the Dundonald family, but is now in the good hands of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust. Nowadays, it is perhaps best known as the site of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here’s British edition.
