Donald Trump made one thing clear on Wednesday: He doesn’t care about the upcoming midterms, even though the signs still don’t look great for theRepublican Party.
While speaking with reporters, the president suggested that Iranian leaders tried “to put pressure on America by stretching out negotiations while Republicans are hurt politically from the negative economic impact of the war.”

But while bothTrump andhis handling of the Iran warare unpopular with American voters, the president insists the risk of his party getting shellacked in the midterms isn’t a big deal to him.
“They thought they’re going to outwait me. He’s got the midterms,” Trump said. “I don’t care about the midterms.”
He then added, “Look at what happened last night. That was a prelude to the midterms,” referring to Trump-endorsedTexas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s victory over veteran Sen. John Cornyn to become the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.
However, things may not be as rosy as Trump would like his followers to believe.

Although Paxton’s win showed that Trump’s endorsement carries weight with the aforementioned MAGA faithful, there are other factors that signal GOP troubles come November.
On Tuesday, GOP efforts to add seats in Alabama and South Carolina byeliminating congressional districts held by Black Democrats both failed.
In addition, CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten noted on Sunday thatTrump is now 55% underwater with young men, a demographic that helped him win in 2024.
Many people on social media had thoughts about Trump’s declaration that he doesn’t care about the midterms. One person noted that the voting patterns in a general election are very different from those in a primary.
Others pointed out the obvious.

Other people noticed Trump’s seeming indifference to the midterms and assumed the fix was in.
And one person paraphrased a John Lennon song lyric.
Trump has pulled the “I don’t care” card before. In March, he said it didn’t really matter if there was a peace treaty with Iran, and, earlier this month, said he doesn’t think about Americans’ financial worries at all when it comes to Iran.
