Meta AI chief Alexander Wang recently said that young people should spend time fully focused on what he calls “vibe-coding”. The 28-year-old AI billionaire recently appeared on the TBPN podcast where he said “If you are, like, 13 years old, you should spend all of your time vibe-coding”. “That’s how you should live your life,” he added. During the podcast interview, Wang said that if teenagers dedicate “10,000 hours” to practising with AI tools, it would give them “a huge advantage.”Alexander Wang joined Meta earlier this year in June to lead its superintelligence unit. The social media giant then acquired the data-labeling startup ScaleAI in a $14.3 million investment deal. Wang, who founded ScaleAI, was then CEO of the startup.
Alexander Wang on AI’s coding ability
During the podcast, Wang described AI’s ability to write code as a breakthrough moment. He made a bold prediction, stating that within the next five years, AI models will be capable of writing “literally all the code” he has ever worked on.“It’s impossible to understate the degree to which I’ve been radicalised by AI coding,” he stated, adding “I think that fundamentally, the role of an engineer is very different now than it was before.”Wang also discussed about his role at Meta’s AI Lab. Calling it an ‘incredible’ experience, he said “building an AI lab in 60 days flat is kind of a kind of an incredible activity”. “Meta has everything necessary to achieve super intelligence. There are no obstacles. We have the business models for building literally hundreds of billions of dollars in computers to be able to actually produce the technology,” Wang reiterated. He further added “Our team is smaller and more talented than any of the other labs. The other labs are, like, 10 times bigger, and our team is about 100 AI scientists.”
