Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two” is getting the coffee-table treatment. Insight Editions will publish “Dune Part Two: The Photography” on Nov. 4, a 240-page volume of behind-the-scenes images captured by longtime set photographer Niko Tavernise. It’s now available to pre-order on Amazon.
The book, which features a foreword by Austin Butler and a preface by Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser, offers an intimate look at the production of Villeneuve’s blockbuster. Tavernise, who has worked on films including “Joker,” “Black Swan” and “West Side Story,” followed the cast and crew across locations in Budapest, Altivole, Jordan and Abu Dhabi, assembling a visual archive of the film’s global footprint.
Collected from thousands of frames shot on set, the volume includes candid moments between Villeneuve and his ensemble — Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Butler and Florence Pugh among them — as well as sweeping views of the desert landscapes and monumental sets that define the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic. The sequel was nominated in five categories at the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography for Fraser. It took home wins for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects,
Tavernise has previously published his work in Variety, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Entertainment Weekly, but this marks his most extensive published collection tied to a single film. Positioned as both a collector’s piece and a document of the filmmaking process, the book arrives as “Dune: Part Two” continues its awards-season campaign following its spring release.
“Dune Part Two: The Photography” is available for preorder now through Insight Editions and major booksellers such as Amazon, with a retail price of $60. Check out a few of the never-before-seen images featured in the book below:
