PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — An Oregon resident who was aboard the hantavirus cruise ship has returned home and will remain in quarantine through June 21.

“Since May 10, the Oregon resident has been at the National Quarantine Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center,” the Oregon Health Authority said. “The resident was transported to the facility after disembarking with other U.S. passengers from the MV Hondius in Spain following an outbreak of the Andes strain of hantavirus aboard the cruise ship, which departed Ushuaia, Argentina, on April 1.”
Public health officials will continue to monitor the person’s health, the agency said.
“OHA reminds people that the risk of infection from Andes virus in Oregon remains extremely low, and there are no concerns about transmission to the general public,” officials said.
A Bend, Oregon, based doctor was on the cruise and treated the on-board doctor when they became sick.
OHA did not name the patient and says the patient has requested privacy at this time.
