Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become commonplace, affecting most facets of daily life, and the field of medicine is no exception. Now the question is how do we harness these new and emerging tools and make them an ally in cardiovascular care?
“Both clinicians and patients must shift their mindset to recognizing digital tools … as essential drivers of high quality, patient-centered care,” write Ami B. Bhatt, MD, FACC, and Shilpa Patel, in this month’s cover story on empowering the AI-enabled clinician. Importantly, they discuss how this is about clinical expertise guiding the tools, the actionable insights they generate, and the real-world impact on patient outcomes and clinician well-being. Fortunately, ACC’s Innovation Program is leading the charge to help clinicians incorporate these emerging technologies into practice and they highlight tools available now and in the works.
In another feature, Megan Coylewright, MD, MPH, FACC, reflects on her time as CardioSmart Editor and highlights the work of the CardioSmart team to grow the platform into a robust and trusted resource over the last four years. Be sure to read about the dedicated work to evolve the platform to support a new era where shared decision-making is not only encouraged, but expected, practiced and resourced.
Also in this issue, get up to speed on the ACC/AHA guideline on high blood pressure, with Joseph E.
