What do you do when an elephant charges your safari jeep full of tourists? You do what this skilled safari driver did: Throw it in reverse and hightail it out of there in hopes the elephant gives up the chase.
Such was the encounter that unfolded in a forest in India, and Girish R. of Travel Kannadiga captured the skilled driver in action in a video he posted on Instagram.
Commenters were effusive in their praise for the unidentified safari driver who expertly drove in reverse, never taking his eyes off the side mirror and the road behind him, until the trumpeting elephant finally gave up and veered off the road.
A few of the comments:
“That’s a mighty fine driver…especially since that elephant wasn’t giving up!”
“Driving skill.”
“Mad respect for the driver.”
“Pro driving.”
“One of the best captures. People got the feel of the real world animal attack. And great appreciation for the driver and passengers who kept their cool in such a dangerous situation.”
“He’s probably had to do that many times over, can probably go reverse in his sleep.”
“That’s one tough driver.”
“A salute to the patience of the driver.”
“Respect to the Driver.”
“That’s some great reversing skills.”
Who knows what the outcome would have been without the skills of the driver?
