After a scary weekend for Lola Young, who collapsed mid-performance at the All Things Go festival on September 27, the British singer will be “going away for a while.” She apologized to her fans who bought tickets to see her in the coming weeks and months and ensured they would get a refund in a statement on Instagram. While Young didn’t cite a specific reason for her forthcoming hiatus, she ended her statement with an appeal to her listeners: “I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger.”
Young canceled performances on either side of her collapse, signaling that perhaps something was amiss with the singer. When she came out onstage on September 27, she told the audience that she was there because she “wanted to be,” adding, “I wanted to perform, and I didn’t want to wallow in my sadness.” Young has had a meteoric rise over the course of the year, with her 2024 song “Messy” breaking through on the radio and TikTok. The singer has been compared to the late Amy Winehouse, in part because both are British and have deep, soulful voices that sing about personal strife and conflict. Like Winehouse, Young struggles with addiction. To take a step back feels like a much-needed reprieve for a singer who has worked hard to keep up with her own success over the course of the past year. Here’s hoping her time away allows the singer some rest and relaxation after too many hours in the spotlight.
