Microsoft’s Windows 10 is preparing for its final days, with official end-of-support slated for October 14, 2025. While IT departments are already deep into their upgrade process, we’re pausing for a moment of remembrance for Windows 10.

In honor of Windows 10 and the decades of operating systems that preceded it, we’re launching our 10 Days of Windows countdown. Starting today, we’re taking a daily trip through Windows history, celebrating the fun and unforgettable features that have defined our digital identities.

The history of Windows is filled with many innovative concepts, like Microsoft Bob, Windows Media Center, Word Pad, and MS Paint. Today, we’re reminiscing about some of the unique features from Windows past that may be gone, but will never be forgotten.

The Spiceworks Community quickly chimed in, proving that the features we miss the most are often the simple, user-friendly tools that disappeared in favor of modern, subscription-based apps.

DailyLlama: “I miss solitaire and minesweeper and things like that being included, free, with no ads, no subscriptions, and no annoying updates from the store.”
HulkSmash: “Windows Movie Maker. Just easy to use.”
SHNOOL: “I remember a special edition of 3-D pinball that you could get with the Ultimate Edition windows 7. I swear I am the only one that remembers it. it opened with ‘into the castle gate…’ when you pressed the plunger.”
The Countdown is On

While we celebrate these lost features, the reality of the Windows 10 end-of-support date on October 14, 2025, is quickly approaching. This countdown is our way of looking back, but also a daily reminder that the evolution of Windows is constant.

Check out the community now to follow along with our 10 Days of Windows countdown and share your own forgotten features and memories!
