Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, collected Rs. 5.50 crore to Rs. 6.00 crore nett on its first Monday, registering around a 50 per cent drop from the opening day. The romantic comedy drama took its 4-day theatrical cume to Rs. 50 crore nett mark at the Indian box office.
On face value, these numbers are good, but are significantly boosted by external factors. Had there been no such push, the real collections would have been much lower. The real test will begin when this boost is lifted, if at all it will.
Cocktail 2 met with mixed-bag reactions among the audience, which is concerning for its further box office run. The movie will face Welcome To The Jungle in the coming days, which might slow down its momentum.
The original film, Cocktail, had an opening of Rs. 10.50 crore nett in 2012, which would be much higher if adjusted to inflation. It was a clean hit venture, with its full run ending at Rs. 74.50 crore nett. It will be interesting to see how the sequel performs at the box office and whether it can match the performance of the OG film.
