Jaden Smith previewed a never-before-seen Christian Louboutin shoe 3D-printed with Zellerfeld on social media late last week.
In a short video clip, Smith is seen wearing the all-black derby style dress shoe with the unmistakable red sole. The men’s creative director for Louboutin then takes the shoe off his foot and shows the camera how flexible the printed silhouette can be, folding it over onto itself.
The German footwear company later reposted Smith’s story on Instagram, subtly confirming the news.
In a statement sent to FN, Zellerfeld said the shoe “marks a major step for what a luxury dress shoe can become, not cut, stitched and assembled in the traditional sense, but shaped through next-gen manufacturing.”
“Zellerfeld’s momentum is becoming hard to overstate,” Zellerfeld stated. “What began as a radical new way to make shoes is now moving through sport, streetwear and luxury, reaching the brands, designers and cultural figures that define where footwear goes next.”
The moment follows Smith’s latest Paris presentation for Christian Louboutin men’s line in Paris last week.
For his second season at the French luxury footwear and accessories brand, the men’s creative director set out to embrace multiple generations with his sophomore collection as men’s creative director of Christian Louboutin. He spiked the presentation with plenty of fantasy, including square-toe lace-ups with all five digits demarcated in relief; a pair of zany red Sasquatch-esque slip-ons, and a black leather quiver filled with leather arrows.
“This is really about me wanting to tell stories, and to evoke childlike wonder in people’s minds,” Smith said about the latter accessory. “There’s a lot of characters in some of my favorite movies who do archery, stories like ‘Robin Hood’ or ‘Lord of the Rings.’”
