Rabat — King Mohammed VI inaugurated on Wednesday the construction of a major regional mental health facility in Sidi Hajjaj Oued Hassar in Mediouna Province, near Casablanca.
The MAD 300 million ($33.02 million) complex, developed by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, will provide comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation services for people with mental health conditions.
Spanning 8 hectares, the facility will feature 396 beds, therapeutic workshops, vocational training centers, and a health pool for psychiatric care and general medicine.
Designed to support patient stabilization and recovery through cognitive remediation and occupational activities, the complex aims to facilitate social and professional reintegration of patients.
The facility’s therapeutic and training pavilion is set to house group therapy rooms, psychology and psychiatry consultation spaces, sports facilities, and ergotherapy rooms.
Vocational training spaces will have creative therapy workshops, including painting, music, and theater, as well as a hair salon and library to support diverse therapeutic approaches.
The project is the fruit of a financial partnership between multiple government ministries, regional councils, and the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and is scheduled for completion within 24 months.
Meanwhile, management of that facility will fall under the responsibility of both the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family.
This initiative is set to boost Morocco’s commitment to strengthening mental healthcare infrastructure and, particularly, improving access to services for vulnerable populations.
Once completed, the facility is designed to provide integrated services dedicated to supporting patients throughout their stabilization and recovery journey, with a mission that centers on delivering cognitive remediation, specialized psychotherapies, and occupational activities aimed at facilitating social and professional reintegration.
The complex will also include a logistics pavilion housing kitchen, dining hall, and laundry services, alongside an educational farm, sports fields, and administrative offices.
Part of broader healthcare strategy
This initiative forms part of an extensive action plan led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity to support Morocco’s medical sector.
The foundation works on strengthening existing healthcare offerings, improving access to care for vulnerable populations, and integrating complementary social approaches into patient and beneficiary support mechanisms.
It also has consistently implemented proximity support mechanisms adapted to people with mental and psychological disorders, encompassing reception, counseling, educational and social supervision, treatment, and skills reinforcement.
