Cheryl Feltner, who worked at West Suffolk NHS Foundation, entered a relationship with a 16-year-old former patient.
A spokesperson for West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust said: “Ms Feltner was suspended in March 2024 when an investigation into the concerns began immediately after notification was received from West Mercia Police.
“Ms Feltner was suspended until the robust investigation concluded, and, at a disciplinary hearing in August 2024, her employment was terminated with immediate effect.
“The Trust has a zero tolerance policy on any behaviour putting its patients, staff, or visitors at risk, particularly children and young people, where there are strict safeguarding measures in place.”
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Fitness to Practise Committee found that Ms Feltner had repeatedly breached professional boundaries with the teenager.
The panel found that the learning disability nurse had contacted the young person without any clinical justification before developing a personal relationship.
It also found that she encouraged the teenager, who had significant mental health needs, to abscond from his care home and made emotionally manipulative comments during a phone call.
The panel said Ms Feltner’s actions represented a serious abuse of professional boundaries and a failure to safeguard a highly vulnerable young person.
It concluded that a striking-off order was the only appropriate sanction and that there was a continuing risk of repetition of her behaviour due to her failure to engage with the NMC proceedings since May 2024.
An interim suspension order will remain in place for 18 months pending the appeal period.
