Not only is The Block an incredibly physical challenge, with the teams building an entire house in just 12 weeks, but it’s also known for taking an emotional toll on contestants. Between the long hours, minimal sleep, and the competitive nature amongst the cast, participants are often more than happy to return to their normal lives once the cameras stop rolling.

With the finish line now in sight, police officers Britt and Taz have been counting down the days until they can fly back to their home in Newman, WA, and reunite with their two kids. The fan favourites tell Yahoo Lifestyle that at this point in the competition, it was incredibly “tough” being away from home.

“It was just sickening,” Britt remarks. “I think for us, with what we do for work, we appear very resilient on the outside, but we are human. We do feel things, and we are emotional, but we’re trying to keep it together.

“We’ll go to jobs in real life where we want to burst out into tears, but we have to hold it together for everyone involved. And that was like us [on The Block]. Any second we could burst out into tears, we were just that upset, missing the kids, but we tried to hold it together.”

The couple add that while they “deal with stressful, life-threatening situations every single day” in their field of work, they struggled filming the reality show.

“We thought The Block was really, really hard, and that’s saying something,” Britt shares. “We’re like little ducks — we’re cool, calm, and collected on the surface because of what we do for work, we’ve built up that resilience, but below the surface, we’re stressed as hell.”

How The Block impacted Britt and Taz’s relationship

While The Block is known for putting couples’ relationships to the test, with Han and Can and Sonny and Alicia often clashing with one another, Britt and Taz admit that the experience made them “stronger”.

“Pre-Block, I was that sort of person who used to maybe hold a bit of a grudge,” Britt says with a laugh. “Taz and I would have an argument, and I’d be like, ‘Talk to me in two to three business days’.

“But we went on The Block and I was like, I can’t be like that, because The Block moves so fast, and we’ve got to make so many decisions every single day, and we have to be communicating properly every single day. So I learned that I could drop it really, really quickly, and I have continued that post-The Block.”

‘We’re on the same page’

Taz adds that, unlike their fiery co-stars, he and Britt “did not have one argument” throughout their 12 weeks filming in Daylesford.

“We had disagreements sometimes, but at the end of the day, we’re on the same page. We definitely wouldn’t go to each other and have shots at each other just because we were angry,” he says.

“We just treated each other with kindness, knowing you’re both going through it,” Britt shares. “So there’s no point being angry at him because you’re stressed. You’re both feeling it, so just work together as a team to get it done.”
