Liam Neeson is back with a new non-stop action thriller that already looks like another intense entry in his legendary filmography. The movie star is getting his own modern version of The Fugitive, playing a war hero accused of a crime he did not commit, a predicament that leads him on a cross-country car chase.
Samuel Goldwyn Films released the official trailer for The Mongoose, which is set to hit theaters on Oct. 30. The film stars Neeson as Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, a military veteran wrongly accused of murdering his ex-wife’s abusive partner. However, despite law enforcement, led by Pope (Michael Chiklis), hot on his tail, Ryan is not alone. On the sidelines, Tara, his former spouse played by Marisa Tomei, and Tanker, a fellow combat vet portrayed by Ving Rhames, are supporting Ryan as he makes his way to The Mongoose.
As the trailer suggests, audiences will learn more about Ryan and his past combat experience throughout the film’s extended chase. The protagonist not-so-subtly declares that he will not be captured again, flashing back to a time in which he was taken as a prisoner of war alongside Tanker. The Mongoose’s premise is certainly nothing that breaks the mold, but coupled with an impressive cast and leading action star, there is enough to get Neeson fans in theater seats this fall. Behind the scenes, The Mongoose is actually the ultimate culmination between Liam Neeson and one of his longtime collaborators. His longtime stunt double, Mark Vanselow, is making his directorial debut with the upcoming action thriller. He has served as stunt double and coordinator on over 16 Neeson films, including the Taken franchise and the ice-cold survival thriller The Grey, among many others. Under the surface, The Mongoose is a special project with a directorial debut two decades in the making.
Along with The Mongoose, Neeson has another action film heading to theaters this fall. His long-awaited thriller The Fix, previously titled Hotel Tehran, is officially set to release on Sept. 11. The project follows Neeson and Shazam! star Zachary Levi as a pair of former CIA operators who head into Iran on a rescue mission after a botched operation in Afghanistan. With his Mongoose protagonist serving as an Afghan war veteran, it appears a perfect double feature viewing is being set up for Neeson fans.
