Four years after Peaky Blinders wrapped, Anya Taylor-Joy is trading period drama for a con artist’s playbook. Starting July 15 on Apple TV, she headlines Lucky, playing a grifter who gets caught between a heist gone wrong, a relentless FBI agent and a crime boss who happens to be family. Annette Bening and Timothy Olyphant round out the cast as, respectively, her ruthless mother-in-law and the father who raised her into this life. “Just thinking I’d like to get out of here alive,” Lucky says in the trailer.
Anya Taylor-Joy returns to television with Lucky
Four years after Peaky Blinders wrapped in 2022, Anya Taylor-Joy is back on the small screen. Her new limited series Lucky premieres on Apple TV on July 15, 2026, a crime thriller she both headlines and executive produces. It also marks her second Apple project, following the 2025 film The Gorge opposite Miles Teller, though it is her first series for the streamer.
A heist gone wrong, then a life on the run
Created by Jonathan Tropper, the man behind Your Friends & Neighbors, the show adapts Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel, a New York Times bestseller and Reese’s Book Club pick. Taylor-Joy plays Lucky, a con artist forced to flee when a multimillion-dollar heist goes sideways, pursued by both the FBI and a ruthless crime boss. The trailer, released June 3, sums up her predicament in one line.
Bening and Olyphant round out a stacked cast
The ensemble around Taylor-Joy is formidable. Timothy Olyphant plays Lucky’s father, who raised her inside a life of crime, while Annette Bening takes on the role of her domineering mother-in-law and boss. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor appears as FBI Agent Billie Rand, the investigator tracking Lucky’s every move, and Drew Starkey plays her husband and fellow con artist. Clifton Collins Jr. and William Fichtner complete the lineup.
Witherspoon and Taylor-Joy behind the camera
Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce through Hello Sunshine, the company that first championed Stapley’s novel via its book club. Taylor-Joy produces under her own banner, LadyKiller, while Cassie Pappas (a Silo alum) joins Tropper as co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken directed the pilot and several episodes, and also serves as executive producer.
How the rollout works
Apple TV will drop the first two episodes together on Wednesday, then release one new installment each week. The limited series wraps its run on August 19, 2026, giving American subscribers a six-week summer thriller.
