Four professors have resigned from the Council for Higher Education following the approval of the gender segregation law in academia. Prof. Marcel Machluf from the Technion; Prof. Jihad Al-Sana from Ben-Gurion University; Prof. Leah Laor from the Levinsky-Wingate Academic Center; and Prof. Idit Teshuva from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem stated: ‘The State of Israel’s achievements in the fields of science, technology and medicine rely on an independent, open, egalitarian higher education system. Harming the system’s independence and its values is not only an attack on academia. It undermines the resilience of the state.’ According to them, ‘The law could damage the international standing of Israeli academia.’
