Lupita Nyong’o’s deserves double the attention for her The Odyssey press tour looks. In part because she’s co-starring with a dual role, serving as both Helen of Troy and Helen’s sister, Clytemnestra. Additionally, she’s proven to be the face that stole 1,000 hearts with her press tour style leading up to the film, which officially released last week.
For the Epic’s world premiere in London, for example, she arrived in a crystal Christian Cowan gown—styled by Micaela Erlanger—with deep-cut sides that revealed her shape. With the look, hairstylist Vernon François gave her afro a cone-like shape paired with black cherry lips (Lisa Eldridge’s Rouge Experience Lipstick in Bohemian Cherry, to be exact) via makeup artist Nick Barose.
Then, the day after, she attended the Chanel Couture show in Paris, and wore a red-beaded Chanel gown to the city’s premiere which matched her lipstick and manicure. Meanwhile, her hair embodied the gown’s open texture, styled in what François called a “loop ‘fro.”
But, it was her New York look that left him emotional. “Seeing Lupita on the red carpet this evening wearing her Afro kinky oily hair filled me with an emotion that’s difficult to describe,” Francois wrote in an Instagram post. “I felt proud, humbled, and if I’m honest, tearful.” To achieve the look, he used Olaplex’s No. 0.5 Scalp Longevity Treatment, No. 8 Intense Moisture Mask, and a hair oil.
As for her makeup, Barose used the I-Envy Cluster Palette and wispy lashes for a custom lash look. “It’s long but also the feathery spaces in between the lashes make it look soft, seductive and feminine,” he said. It’s a style Nyong’o embodies effortlessly on red carpets. And now, with the film out, in theaters all over the world.
