Apple TV’s The Morning Show is signing off. The streamer announced Thursday that the Emmy-winning newsroom drama will conclude with its upcoming fifth season, bringing the long-running series led by Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston to a close.
“This was always more than a show about a newsroom — it was a show about why the newsroom matters. About freedom of the press, and the journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great cost. Telling that story has been the creative privilege of my career,” Witherspoon said in a statement provided to Gold Derby.
In a separate statement, Aniston reflected on wrapping up the series, saying: “It’s been such a privilege to work with this insanely talented cast, and our extraordinary writers, producers, and crew. We’ve become such a family and we’re all so excited to share this final season. And going in knowing it would be our last, we were so fortunate to craft the conclusion with intentionality, and honor these characters the way they deserve.”

Witherspoon and Aniston on ‘The Morning Show’ set
The story
Apple TV declined to release any plot details about the fifth and final season, but it will presumably conclude the stories of morning news anchors Alexandra Levy (Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon), who began the series as rivals, but became friends and partners.
The cast and creative team
Alongside Witherspoon and Aniston, the ensemble cast includes two-time Emmy winner Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm. Season 5 will also introduce several new faces, including Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes, and Lizzy Caplan.
Behind the camera, Charlotte Stoudt serves as showrunner and executive producer, while Mimi Leder is director and executive producer. The other executive producers include Aniston, Witherspoon, Michael Ellenberg, Lauren Neustadter, Kristin Hahn, Zander Lehmann, and Micah Schraft.
The awards prospects
Over its run, The Morning Show has become a consistent Emmy contender, particularly for Crudup’s performance as network executive Cory Ellison. The third season earned 16 Emmy nominations, with Crudup winning his second Emmy for Best Drama Supporting Actor. He also claimed a Critics Choice Award for the role that season.
The series has been recognized by the Television Academy since its debut. Crudup won his first Emmy and a Critics Choice Award for Season 1, while Season 2 earned Emmy nominations for Witherspoon (Best Drama Actress), Crudup (Best Drama Supporting Actor), and Marcia Gay Harden (Best Drama Guest Actress)
The release date
The fifth and final season of The Morning Show will air in 2027.
