The Premier League has witnessed the rise of some of football’s brightest young talents, with numerous wonderkids bursting onto the scene before enjoying great success in their careers.

After making his debut at 18, Nicolas Anelka became a key figure in Arsenal’s Premier League and FA Cup double-winning side in his first full season. The following year he scored 17 goals in 35 league matches, earning him the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
He moved to Real Madrid and won the UEFA Champions League, then later returned to England with Chelsea, where he won a second league title, the Coca-Cola Golden Boot, and two more FA Cups.
Gareth Bale made his debut for Southampton at just 16, featuring in both the Championship and for Wales before being snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur. He made his Spurs debut shortly after turning 18 and in a sign of things to come, scored twice in his first three Premier League appearances, including a fine free-kick against Arsenal in the north London derby.
Initially a left-back, Bale flourished further forward on the left wing and became one of the leading players in the Premier League before joining Real Madrid in a world-record transfer.
The midfielder became Arsenal’s youngest-ever player when he made his debut in the EFL Cup aged 16 years and 177 days, and two months later he became the club’s youngest scorer.
Max Dowman now claims both of those records for Arsenal after making his debut against Leeds United aged 15 and claiming his first Premier League goal at 16 years and 73 days old.
Fabregas was a first-team regular in Arsene Wenger’s side before turning 18 and quickly established himself as one of the league’s leading midfielders.
After winning the FA Cup and reaching the Champions League final with Arsenal, he went on to win league titles with Barcelona and Chelsea, and played a central role in the Spain side that won two UEFA European Championships and a FIFA World Cup in successive years.
Phil Foden made his debut for Manchester City when he was only 17 and was a Premier League title-winner that season. Twice the recipient of the PFA Young Player of the Year award, he was also the Golden Ball winner at the Under-17 World Cup.
As he became a regular under Pep Guardiola, Foden collected a stunning list of honours, including being part of the Treble-winning side of 2022/23. He has already won six Premier League titles.
Making his debut at 18, Robbie Fowler was such a prolific striker he did not take long to become a first-team regular. Within a few years he produced back-to-back 30-plus goal seasons, establishing himself as one of the league’s sharpest goalscorers.
He became Liverpool’s all-time Premier League top scorer with 163 goals, a record later surpassed by Mohamed Salah, and he remains ninth in the competition’s all-time list.
Steven Gerrard was 18 years old when he came on to make his Liverpool debut and established himself in the heart of midfield with his power, athleticism and all-round game. Within two years he drove the team to an FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup treble.
Over a 17-year career at Anfield he played over 700 matches, winning the Champions League, two FA Cups, the UEFA Cup and three EFL Cups. Gerrard is widely considered one of the finest midfielders to have played in the Premier League.
Michael Owen scored on his debut aged 17 at the end of the 1996/97 season – becoming Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer.
The following season he lit up the Premier League, winning the Golden Boot in successive seasons. Within a few years, Owen won a UEFA Cup, FA Cup and EFL Cup treble, and claimed the Ballon d’Or for his performances. He would eventually lift the Premier League title at Manchester United.
After signing for Man Utd from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon for a fee that was at the time a record for a teenager, Ronaldo made his Premier League debut aged 18, lifting the FA Cup in his first season before developing into one of the greatest players of all time.
He was part of the Man Utd side that won three back-to-back titles and the Champions League, claiming the first of five Ballon d’Or trophies before dominating in Spain and Italy.
Wayne Rooney announced himself with a stunning goal against Arsenal on his Premier League debut as a 16-year-old for Everton, prompting commentator Clive Tyldesley’s iconic line: “Remember the name: Wayne Rooney!” It was impossible to forget.
He became a regular goalscorer for club and country the following season and never stopped. Rooney went on to become only the third player to surpass 200 Premier League goals and won everything going at Man Utd, cementing his status as one of the game’s greats.
Having joined Arsenal’s academy at seven, Bukayo Saka made his first-team debut at 17 under Unai Emery then became a regular under Mikel Arteta within a year. Saka has been integral to Arteta’s rebuild, helping shape one of the Premier League’s most consistent teams of the past five years and finally ending Arsenal’s 22-year wait for the title in 2025/26.
Marcus Rashford burst onto the scene aged 18, scoring twice on his Man Utd debut in the UEFA Europa League against Midtjylland.
Three days later, he followed it with a three-minute double against Arsenal. In only four months, he hit eight goals in 18 appearances, lifted the FA Cup and impressed so much he earned a call-up to England’s Euro 2016 squad.
The following season, he was an integral part of the Man Utd side that won the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League double, scoring 11 times.
AFC Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi raced into the record books in his first Premier League season. Aged only 19, he became the first teenager in more than two decades to score 10 goals in their debut campaign, and then pushed on to become the outright leading scorer in that category.
His 13 goals in 2025/26 overtook the previous record of 12, shared by Fowler at Liverpool and Robbie Keane at Coventry City, and made him the joint-ninth top scorer in the league that season.
