(NewsNation) — An unreleased animated Star Wars comedy series that fans have been waiting years to see will finally be made available to the public.
“Star Wars Detours” was produced in 2013 by Lucasfilm Animation in collaboration with Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. The series never aired because Lucasfilm reportedly worried its parody-style humor would not be the best introduction to the franchise for new fans, according to Polygon.

The show offered a comedic take on events between “Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.”
Footage from the series debuted in 2012, but Lucasfilm later postponed its release. In 2015, the project was officially canceled. The voice cast included Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, as well as “Weird Al” Yankovic.
The series’ release was announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Green revealed that episodes of “Star Wars Detours” will be shown at the Lucas Museum, which is scheduled to open Sept. 22 in Los Angeles.
