Jennette McCurdy has written a third book. It’s not a memoir, like I’m Glad My Mom Died, which was her first book. And it’s not a novel, like her second book, Half His Age. This book is a “guided journal” called The Examined Year. If she continues this way, I’m just excited to find out what genre her fourth book is going to be.
McCurdy announced the new journal on Monday on X, alongside photos of herself holding the book. She wrote in the post that The Examined Life is her way of helping those who have supported her writing “in big and small ways” to live the lives they have always dreamed of, just like her. She created the book, “to help you identify your core values, build goals that honor those values, and take honest stock of your life month by month and season by season, pivoting accordingly as you gain insight and learn more about yourself,” McCurdy wrote. She continued that she “designed every piece of this journal with you in mind,” from pressure-testing the prompts to sifting through samples of vegan leather and paper qualities. McCurdy concluded in her post, “We’re going to reflect. We’re going to learn about ourselves. And we’re all going to write this one together.” The journal is out on December 8, and is available for pre-order now.

I can’t deny that McCurdy has kept up a pretty impressive writing schedule over the years. Maybe the secret to publishing so regularly is in this planner.
