Following Ariana Grande’s departure from the spotlight, the producers of Sunday in the Park with George confirm in a new statement that Grande’s role in the musical revival will be recast. “Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George. We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support,” the statement reads. “We wish her nothing but the best. The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and casting will be announced in due course.” Grande was first announced to star alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey in January, starring as Dot for the Stephen Sondheim revival. The Petal singer shared that she will be taking a break from the spotlight after her Eternal Sunshine world tour concludes in London at the end of August.
Directed by Marianne Elliott, production begins next summer at the Barbican Centre in London.
