Almost 700 people opt out of auto enrolment scheme locally

Almost 700 people opted out of auto enrolment locally so far this year.
The figures come following a parliamentary question by Dublin West Deputy Emer Currie to the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris.
The Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System, known as MyFutureFund, commenced on the 1st of January 2026.
The aim of introducing the system is to address the pension coverage gap that exists in Ireland and to provide workers with greater comfort and security regarding their retirement income.

At this time, more than 840,000 employees have been enrolled.
556 opt-outs have taken place locally in 2026.
Cavan has had the largest amount of those with 202.
Longford’s next on 192 with 157 in Monaghan and Roscommon’s total is 135.
While in Leitrim, there have been 62.
Nationally, there have been 13,112 opt-outs.
