The Prince and Princess of Wales have been invited to undertake a royal tour of Australia, with many royal fans hoping they could take their children with them if they choose to accept the offer.
The idea was put forward by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as he met with King Charles at Balmoral for the first time since the King and Queen’s nine-day tour Down Under in October 2024.
After his meeting with the monarch, Albanese said there was a “standing invitation” for Kate and William to visit the country in the “coming period”, and is “hopeful” they will take him up on the offer.

Speaking after his audience with Charles, the Prime Minister was asked whether Kate and William would be invited for a royal tour. He said: “I’m certainly hoping there will be one, there’s a standing invitation that the royal family are always welcome in Australia.
“It was wonderful to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla to Australia recently, that had a very successful visit and His Majesty is very engaged and I hope that the Prince and Princess of Wales are able to visit as well and we are hopeful that might occur in the coming period”.
The Prince and Princess of Wales haven’t taken part in an official royal tour since 2022, when they travelled to the Caribbean before heading to the US later the same year for the Earthshot Prize in Boston.
The offer from the Australian prime minister has many royal commentators questioning whether the Prince and Princess of Wales will take him up on the invitation, and if they might choose to bring their children along for the international royal tour.

William and Kate last travelled to Australia in 2014, bringing Prince George, who was just nine months old at the time, with them.
If they did, it would be seven-year-old Prince Louis’ first ever overseas royal trip . In his younger years, travel restrictions were in place for large parts of 2020 and 2021 due to Covid ruling out going abroad when Louis was a toddler.
Even six-year-old Prince Archie, who was less than a year old when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit their royal duties, experienced a royal trip abroad, as the Sussexes brought him along on their 2019 trip to South Africa when he was just five months old.
Princess Charlotte made her royal tour debut in 2016 when she joined the family on a visit to Canada at 16 months old. While it is not known exactly when Louis could make his royal tour debut, he did carry out his first royal engagement in 2023 to coincide with King Charles’ Coronation. He joined his parents the Prince and Princess of Wales and George and Charlotte for the Big Help Out.
Royal expert Arthur Edwards told The Sun that a trip to Australia would be a huge success for the Waleses and the royal family at large, as he said: “Every time I have been with Prince William Down Under the crowds have thronged to see him with total delight. When he went with Catherine and their then baby son George in 2014 they were mobbed wherever they went, whether it was the zoo or at Sydney’s Manly beach with the lifesavers.
“William and Catherine are probably the most popular royal couple in the world right now and will be treated like superstars.”
He went on to say the potential tour would be “a sure fire hit” if they bring George, Charlotte and Louis, adding: “William is now the Prince of Wales and he should be representing the King on these major tours.”
