Courtney Love posted a life update on Instagram on Friday, announcing that her next solo album is finished and that she “almost died” in the process of recording it. “A lot of you have been asking where my record is at,” she wrote. “My record is done. It’s kinda been done. It’s a really good record. I put a lot into it.” Love hinted at a series of health issues that had, presumably, delayed the record’s release. “I went to England in 2019, and when I went there, my body exploded. It just exploded. I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died. I lost all my hair, I was about 100 pounds. And they told me I was going to die, and I didn’t believe them.”
Love said much of the album deals with the “pattern interruption” of adults, including the doctors who told her she would die. “I just didn’t believe them, and somehow I got better, and now I’m amazing,” she said. The video’s caption reads: “I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t, all I did was write & record it. I want to tour more than anything. & I want to sing. That’s what keeps my soul & body happy.”
She appears to be referring to a period between 2020 and 2021, when she revealed that she had been hospitalized for anemia at 97 pounds. At the time, Love said she was “stigmatized for being an addict” until she found “the most empathetic wise pain management dr.” In Friday’s video, she also mentioned her hesitancy to release another record after the failure of Nobody’s Daughter. “In 2009, I put out a record. It flopped. It was spectacular, humbling, playing a place called Pizza Hut Park at 11 A.M. while Limp Bizkit was headlining with 30 Seconds to Mars, that shit’s humbling,” she laughed. “I just need to, like, understand how to do this.”
