Maternity wear is not what it used to be. Clothes for pregnant bodies have drastically changed over the course of the last decade, and Anne Hathaway’s maternity style is a case study in just how much that category has evolved.
From 2016’s minidresses and caftans to the era of freeing the baby bump and celebrating changing bodies, Hathaway’s maternity wear follows a trajectory that has seen luxury labels and fashion houses create customized pieces and designs for pregnant bodies. During Hathaway’s first pregnancy, T-shirts and minidresses were still very much a part of the actress’ wardrobe. For a January 2016 event, just two months before her first child was due, Hathaway sported a black-and-white patterned shift minidress from Marc by Marc Jacobs, featuring short sleeves and circular motifs throughout.

Ten years after her first pregnancy, Hathaway showcased just how far maternity wear had come. By August 2026, Hathaway sartorially said “free the bump,” wearing a custom Atelier Prabal Gurung look at “The End of Oak Street” premiere. The ensemble featured a sculptural high-low halter top with a cascading train, crafted in celestial blue and vivid crimson silk Mikado. Styled by Erin Walsh, Hathaway paired the look with low-rise, wide-leg jeans by La Ligne, which sat beneath her baby bump.
