ROCHESTER — Mayo Clinic has issued its guidance for who should get the updated COVID-19 vaccine this fall.

In a Friday, Aug. 28,

news release,

Mayo Clinic said it recommends the latest COVID-19 vaccine for anyone age six months and older and anyone who is pregnant.

“Mayo Clinic’s recommendations are carefully developed based on scientific evidence and rooted in its commitment to protecting its patients and staff,” the health system said.

The health system issued its guidance on one day after the

FDA approved updated vaccines

from pharmaceutical companies Moderna, Novavax-Sanofi and Pfizer-BioNTech.

This season’s vaccines will be available, if not already,

within the next several days

at pharmacies and healthcare clinics. The updated annual vaccine for influenza is also available.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
