ICYMI: Arsenal consider deadline day move for long-standing transfer target

Arsenal are considering a move for Lyon winger Malick Fofana before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Arsenal’s interest in the 21-year-old forward stretches back to last summer as the Premier League champions weigh up a move for a wide attacker.

Mikel Arteta’s side have sold Gabriel Martinelli to Al Hilal for a record £60m while Gabriel Jesus is in talks to join Barcelona for around £8.5m.

There is a need for Lyon to sell after the French side failed to qualify for the Champions League and Fofana is one of their brightest assets.

The Belgium international, who can play across the front line but favours the left wing, could be available for around £50m.

ICMYI: Cody Gakpo to remain at Liverpool after Man City bid rejected

Cody Gakpo looks likely to stay at Liverpool after they repelled an approach from Manchester City for the winger.

Liverpool felt a bid so late in the transfer window presented challenges in trying to find a replacement for the £80m-rated Dutchman.

City could switch their attentions to other targets. They are also interested in Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.

Tottenham were leading the race for Ndiaye heading into the eve of deadline day but as the Senegal international attracts interest from elsewhere, there are now doubts over the likelihood of a move to Spurs before Tuesday’s deadline.

“I’ve been disconnected from the world for 24 hours because I think my energy and focus has to be on the match. I will get back on it now.

“We know that the depth has to be really big when you are fighting for four competitions in the manner that we play as well. So we’re going to try to do that.”

ICYMI: Man City open talks with Chelsea over Enzo Fernandez

Manchester City reached a breakthrough last night in their pursuit of Enzo Fernandez, but Chelsea are still set to demand more than £120m for the midfielder. This one could go right down to the wire and could depend on Chelsea’s own search for a replacement, as well as whether City ultimately meet Chelsea’s valuation.

Enzo Maresca wants to be reunited with Fernandez, who was left out of the Chelsea squad by Xabi Alonso for Sunday’s 4-3 win over Brighton and has already been booed by his own fans this season. It would take an enormous transfer fee to bring the World Cup winner to Manchester, but with Fernandez seemingly eager to leave, the west London club might not have a choice but to lower their demands.
