An Arab-Israeli citizen in his 30s who had formerly served in the IDF was charged with affiliating himself with the ISIS terror group, the Israel Police announced on Wednesday, after his allegiance was discovered in an investigation by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).
The suspect, Khamis Su’ad, had served in the IDF between 2017 and 2019 and had allegedly exhibited a growing interest in ISIS since 2023, according to the indictment.
Su’ad was studying with the aim of joining ISIS terror cells outside of Israel, Israel Police and Shin Bet jointly stated. The State Attorney’s Office said the indictment alleges these cells were in either Syria or Africa.
He saved money in order to travel and watched videos on missile and drone production, the use of weapons, and military tactics during 2026, the indictment said.
