Alexandra “Alex” Eala will take on Oleksandra Oliynykova on Thursday (early Friday, Philippine time) in the second round of the US Open as she makes her return to the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The Eala-Oliynykova clash will follow the match between the Filipina ace’s US Open mixed doubles partner, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Karen Khachanov, which starts at 11:00 a.m. (New York time).

This will not be the first meeting between Eala and Oliynykova, as the Ukrainian defeated the Filipina in the Strasbourg Open last May, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Eala, however, said she has been working on several aspects of her game since that match.

“Yes, it was a really good match. I mean, very intense, quite tight. I think looking back at that match, there are a lot of things that I could have done better,” Eala said of their previous encounter.

“I think I’ve been working on [those things] since then. It’s been a couple of months. I think I’ve developed a lot in said months. So all I can do is come into that match with the same mindset as today or even better than the mindset I’ve been having these past couple of weeks, and try to do my best.”

Eala has been on a roll in recent weeks, highlighted by her run to the fourth round of Wimbledon and her maiden WTA title at the DC Open.

The Filipina ace opened her US Open campaign with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mary Stoiana in the first round.
