When Pamela Anderson set out to restore her family’s historic property on Vancouver Island, she wasn’t interested in making it feel pristine. She based her philosophy around connecting the house to its surroundings – letting the landscape influence the decorating. Nowhere is this more evident than in her bedroom.

In this space, Pamela’s thinking comes through with plaster walls, a chandelier, and vintage textiles with a beautiful sense of nostalgia. To get the look, I’d begin with this beautiful chandelier from Wayfair and pair it alongside your favorite floral bedsheets. However, with all that said, it’s the exposed wood ceiling that feels the most defining.

‘Wood paneling is an instant charmer,’ says interior designer Kayleigh Eppinger of Epp Interiors. ‘It does what no paint could and brings warmth, pattern and texture all at once. Opt for real wood, no faux stuff that can be seen from a mile away.’

If you’re thinking of incorporating bedroom paneling, Kayleigh explains that your timber choice is the most impactful design decision you can make. ‘If you’re aiming for a subtle, more modern feel, a plain-sliced white oak is a beautiful choice that still adds warmth, but acts more as a background texture than a focal point,’ she says.

‘On the other hand, if you want a bolder, more rustic look, a knotted pine is what you want. It has that true natural quality and shows all the characteristics of the trees it came from, adding a real earthiness to your living room.’

Pamela’s rustic bedroom shows the appeal of letting wood speak for itself. The chandelier, linen curtains, and floral bedding temper the ceiling’s heaviness to create a soothing sleep space.

‘Either way, wood paneling has a huge impact and creates the perfect backdrop for a layered, cozy space,’ Kayleigh concludes. Let Pamela’s retreat serve as the perfect blueprint for how to warm up your bedroom and pay homage to a natural landscape – wherever you are.
