Interstellar Arc’s interplanetary missions have come to an abrupt halt.
The immersive virtual reality experience opened to much fanfare in October as one of the anchors of Area15’s new Zone 2. The attraction simulated the 11-light-year journey from Earth to Arcadia aboard a sprawling spaceship.
VR fans noticed last month that Interstellar Arc had stopped selling tickets. It has since closed its doors as part of the ongoing financial problems of its parent company, the Emmy-winning Felix & Paul Studios founded by Félix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphaël.
“What I’d say is, it’s done. There are discussions to see if there’s ways to reopen it,” Area15 CEO Winston Fisher said Tuesday. “We hope to have updates for you in the next week or two.”
Fisher also provided an update on the Area15 space that previously housed Illuminarium.
“It’s being redeveloped as we talk. We’re very excited,” he said. “Next year, there will be something there.”
The 360-degree venue, which presented shows such as the rock photo retrospective “Amplified,” closed in March.
“It was a really cool experience, and then it ran its course,” Fisher said. “Another experience is coming which I think is going to just blow people’s minds. … It’s a big experience coming. It’s going to be super cool for the campus.”
