Micah Nori enters his first season as head coach for the Trail Blazers.
PORTLAND –The Portland Trail Blazers have announced basketball operations additions and promotions for the 2026-27 season including additions to head coach Micah Nori’s staff. Jay Triano, Mike Williams, Quinton Crawford, Gilbert Abraham and Leron Black have been named assistant coaches along with Pooh Jeter and Jason Luhnow as player development coaches.
A 2026 Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Triano brings two decades of NBA coaching experience to the Trail Blazers including two head coaching stints with the Toronto Raptors (2008-11) and Phoenix Suns (2017-18). The first Canadian-born head coach in NBA history, Triano also coached the Canadian National Team from 1999-04 and 2012-19. He represented Canada in three Olympic Games as a player. Triano returns to Portland after previously serving as an assistant coach from 2012-16. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2025-26 season.
Williams joins Nori’s staff after previously working as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz from 2023-26. Prior to joining the Jazz, he spent two seasons as the head coach of the Washington Wizards’ G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, making him one of the youngest head coaches in the G League. Williams led the team to a 19-13 record and postseason semifinal appearance during the 2022-23 season. Williams began his career as a player development intern with the Trail Blazers, before joining the Wizards as a player development assistant during the 2018-19 season, a position he held for three seasons.
Crawford enters his second season with the Trail Blazers as an assistant coach. Prior to his time in Portland, Crawford served as the head coach of the Stockton Kings where he led the team to the 2025 NBA G League Championship in his first season as head coach. He has also served as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers – including as a member of the Lakers’ 2020 NBA Championship coaching staff.
Abraham will continue in his role as an assistant coach while also entering his third season as the team’s Director of Player Development. Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, Abraham spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach for the Austin Spurs, the G League affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs. He also acted as the Director of Performance for Tandem Sports and Entertainment from 2021-23.
After spending last season as a player development coach with the Trail Blazers, Black has been promoted to assistant coach. He previously spent two seasons with the team’s G League affiliate Rip City Remix as an assistant coach. Prior to joining the Remix, he spent two seasons in the college ranks with the University of Dayton—serving as a graduate assistant from 2021-23. Before beginning his coaching career at Dayton, Black competed professionally overseas in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico from 2018-2021.
Jeter enters his fourth season as Player Development Coach with the team. Prior to coming to Portland, Jeter spent two seasons (2021-23) playing with G League Ignite where he offered veteran leadership to prospective young players. His playing career also included a stint with the Sacramento Kings in 2010-11 as well as international experience in Spain, Israel, China, France, Turkey and Ukraine. Jeter was inducted into the University of Portland Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 27, 2024.
Entering his fourth season, Luhnow will transition into a full-time player development coach role under Nori’s staff after serving as video coordinator and player development coach last season. Luhnow joined the organization in 2022 as a video intern. He played basketball at Lake Oswego High School before becoming a standout player at Lewis and Clark College. Post-graduation, Luhnow played for the Woodville Warriors of the National Basketball League One division in Australia. Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, he served as the junior varsity and varsity assistant coach for the Lake Oswego High School men’s basketball program and assisted in developing collegiate and professional players.
Ikenna Smart will continue to serve as video coordinator and player development coach. Ty Vitko returns for his second season as assistant video coordinator, while John Townsend remains in his role as shooting coach.
Nate Bjorkgren enters his fourth season with the Trail Blazers and is transitioning to Special Assistant to the Coaching Staff and Basketball Operations. Prior to his time in Portland, he served as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors (2021-23, 2018-20) and was the head coach of the Indiana Pacers during the 2020-21 season.
James Brocato joins the team as Director of Basketball Innovation after a 12-year tenure with the Dallas Mavericks, where he most recently served as the Director of Basketball Analytics. In his role with the Trail Blazers, Brocato utilizes data to support decision-making across basketball operations and drive competitive advantages. Brocato holds a Juris Doctor from the Gonzaga University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Washington State University.
