Maschiff and Mabosstiff debuted in Pokémon Go during September 2026’s Mega Squads event. These dogs hail from Gen 9 and Mabosstiff played a central part in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s storyline. Now these Dark-type doggos can be found in Pokémon Go, so let’s take a look at how to get Maschiff and how to evolve it into Mabosstiff.

How to get Maschiff in Pokémon Go
There are three different ways to catch Maschiff:
Mega Squads exclusive field research tasks (From Friday 11th September onwards) – Hatch an egg
5km eggs (From Friday 11th September onwards)
Go Pass – Rank 30
Now that Maschiff is available through means other than the Go Pass, I recommend combining your attempts to hatch it from an egg and hunting down its research task. This will work quite well since the research task in question is ‘Hatch an egg‘, so you’ll always be hunting down a Maschiff in some form. It may still take you some time – Maschiff is not only in either the egg or research task pool – but this method ensures you’re always hunting for Maschiff in some way. It will also cover your back if you’ve fallen behind climbing the Go Pass ranks and don’t want to pay for the Deluxe track.
I do recommend focusing slightly more on finding the right research task as you have 50-50 odds of getting Maschiff since it only shares this pool with Flamigo. (And who knows, maybe you’ll get a shiny Flamigo while you’re at it.) Just remember that you need the event-exclusive version of the ‘Hatch an egg’ research task, not the seasonal one. Handily, the research task will be noted as being the event version in your field research collection.
If you continue egg hatching and field research tasks together, you should hopefully end the Mega Squads event with at least one Maschiff. This will ensure you can evolve it into Mabosstiff, which is incredibly useful because, like with many of recently released Pokémon, we don’t know when or how Maschiff will be spawning in Pokémon Go after this event ends.
The Mega Squads event sees the release of Maschiff! Want to know what’s happening this month? Then take a look at the September schedule. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for both the rarest Pokémon and the best Pokémon in your travels.
How to evolve Maschiff into Mabosstiff in Pokémon Go

While you’ll get a solid amount of candy from hatching Maschiff from a 5km egg, there are two things you need to remember. Firstly, you won’t be able to collect 5km eggs containing Maschiff until Friday 11th September and, secondly, there will be other Pokémon in this egg pool. Due to this, it’s a good idea to use Pinap Berries when you get the chance to catch Maschiff from a field research task or via Go Pass. This will make your journey to adding Mabosstiff to your Pokédex far easier.
Are Maschiff and Mabosstiff shiny in Pokémon Go?
No, Maschiff and Mabosstiff are not shiny in Pokémon Go at the time of writing. Due to this, we’ll have to wait a little bit longer before we get the chance to grab these shiny forms.
Shiny Maschiff and shiny Mabosstiff are proof that simple shiny forms are sometimes the best shiny forms. Rather than going with something colourful or complicated (or green), both shiny Maschiff and shiny Mabhosstiff swap out their brown colour set for a black and grey colourset. It’s sleek, it fits their typing, it looks really cool.
