Travis Kelce opened up about the shadiest song on Taylor Swift‘s The Life of a Showgirl — “Actually Romantic.”
The 35-year-old pop star released her 12th studio album on Friday, Oct. 3, and Swifties were quick to dissect its lyrics while hunting down any possible Easter eggs. One song that they has sparked plenty of conversation is “Actually Romantic,” which many believe is a diss track aimed at Charli xcx.
On the song, Swift calls out a fellow musician for calling her “boring Barbie when the coke’s got you brave,” singing, “Wrote me a song sayin’ it makes you sick to see my face / Some people might be offended / But it’s actually sweet / All the time you’ve spent on me / It’s honestly wild / All the effort you’ve put in / It’s actually romantic / I really gotta hand it to you / No man has ever loved me like you do.”
Fans previously speculated that Charli, who has a song called “Everything Is Romantic” on her album Brat, wrote her song “Sympathy Is a Knife” about Swift. This sparked rumors of a feud, leading some to believe that the “Opalite” singer responded to Charli’s track on her new album.
During the Wednesday, Oct. 8 episode of Travis and Jason Kelce‘s New Heights podcast, the NFL stars and brothers reflected on the album and shared some of their favorite songs, with both of them highlighting “Actually Romantic.”
Jason, 37, listed “Opalite” and “Eldest Daughter” as his early standouts, adding “Fate of Ophelia,” the title track and “Actually Romantic” as his “other top three.”
“I like ‘Actually Romantic’ a lot,” he said, prompting Travis, 36, to reply, “That’s become, I wouldn’t say my new favorite, but that’s the one I catch myself going to whenever I look at the list. It’s got that alternative rock, like fun ’90s rock. I love that s—.”
Continuing, Travis said, “She makes talking s— sound so sweet.”
Swift hasn’t confirmed the subject of her song. However, in the Amazon Music introduction she described it as “a song about realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.”

“And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent free and you had no idea,” she explained.
“It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting you or having a problem with you, but you take that and just accept it as love and you accept it as attention and affection, and how flattering that somebody has made you such a big part of their reality when you didn’t even think about this,” Swift said, concluding, “It’s actually pretty romantic if you really think about it.”
During the latest episode of New Heights, Travis and Jason gushed over the album, though they opted out of giving it a formal review as they didn’t feel qualified.

“She’s put the world on tilt. It’s been so fun to see everybody’s reactions, and we’ve had an absolute blast watching her go through her press tour,” Travis said, referencing his fiancée’s recent radio interviews and other appearances. “She’s looked amazing, sounded amazing. and this album is absolutely amazing,”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end admitted that he had already heard all of the songs before they were released to the world, confirming to his brother that he listened to most of it with Swift by his side and that he had heard early versions of the songs.
“It makes you really appreciate the whole Max Martin… the mastering of the sounds. Hearing the first version versus the final version. Like I’m listening to these songs still in my car to work and back and forth from home every single day. Like, ‘Man, they f—— crushed it.’ Because it didn’t sound as, like, I don’t know if profound is the word, but a lot of the sounds didn’t come through as much the first time I heard it.”
His final verdict: “They all f—— killed it.”
