Final Fantasy 7 Revelation may need around 200 GB of storage, according to game director Naoki Hamaguchi. Speaking to VGC at Tokyo Game Show 2026, he was asked whether the download would be larger than the two Blu-ray discs used for the previous games. Here’s what he said:”In a word, yes. Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200 GB of game. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent.
One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we’re in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product. That was really important to us. Trust me!”
That’s a direct comment from the director, but it’s still an estimate, so the final size could still change before launch on April 8, 2027. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth came in at 155 GB on PC when it launched on that platform in January 2025. Both Remake and Rebirth shipped on two discs, while Revelation’s physical editions will use a single disc and require an additional download on all platforms. VGC notes that PS5 discs max out at 100 GB, so a full on-disc release would have needed at least two again. Hamaguchi didn’t say exactly which platform the 200 GB applies to, so we will have to wait for the full requirements to be published for that answer.
