A Daily Express US poll found that an overwhelming 97% of respondents believe Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the wrong decision by moving back to Britain. Of the 1,373 people who participated, just 3% considered the relocation a good decision, according to the outlet.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to the UK in mid-August after spending six years in Montecito, California, where they raised their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family has since settled in the Cotswolds, England.
However, the transition has reportedly not been entirely smooth. Just two days after their children started at a new school, the couple allegedly had to withdraw them and enrol them elsewhere. Heavy traffic and lengthy commute times reportedly placed additional strain on the family’s security detail, while Harry continues to push for state-funded protection, citing ongoing risks to his family.
Days after their return, King Charles issued a letter confirming that Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals. The communication clarified that any public engagements undertaken by the couple would be strictly private rather than official royal business.
Palace insiders reportedly claimed the move has further deepened existing tensions within the family, while royal aides are said to remain uncertain about the couple’s long-term intentions. A spokesperson for the Sussexes said the pair were “a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.”
Despite the reported friction, Harry and Meghan have continued making public appearances in the UK. Meghan was spotted at the exclusive Soho Farmhouse, while Harry stepped out solo on September 17 for the inaugural Invictus Spirit Gala Dinner in Greenwich, London.
The following day, he visited a London school, where he played pickleball with students ahead of the sport’s introduction at the Birmingham Invictus Games.
