Prince William was furious when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved back to the UK in August 2026, and it seems his feelings aren’t changing.
According to Heat World, William was behind the Lord Chamberlain’s letter confirming Harry and Meghan would still be non-working royals in the UK. He reportedly intervened to stop King Charles from making a “colossal mistake” by potentially welcoming the couple back into the royal fold.

“William was very instrumental in getting that letter out,” a source claimed, revealing that he’s “taking it as a big win, and it’s given him hope that his father might finally be seeing this more clearly.”
The insider added that William is determined to keep Harry and Meghan away from the royal family, and he has one major demand for Charles: strip Harry and Meghan of their titles.
“William is not going to stop pushing until the King agrees to take away their titles,” they told the outlet. “He hates that he has to constantly raise the issue with his father; it’s caused a lot of strife between them, but if it means protecting the monarchy and protecting his father from making a colossal mistake, it’s worth it to William.”
The source emphasized, “When he’s got something in his sights, he won’t give up. Just look at the way he handled the issue with Andrew.”
William reportedly played a key role in urging Charles to “get tough” and strip former Prince Andrew of his titles. Heat World shared that it was a “very long uphill battle,” but William ultimately convinced his father—and now he hopes for the same outcome regarding Harry and Meghan.
In addition to his frustration with Harry and Meghan’s current royal status, William is said to be furious about their finances. Sources claim the future King is angry that the Sussexes have made millions leveraging their royal titles.
Many have argued that this lets them enjoy the privileges that come with being part of the royal family without fulfilling any official duties. Additionally, with the substantial wealth they’ve accumulated by exploiting the royal name, Harry and Meghan have the freedom to spend lavishly on luxury items and multiple multi-million-dollar mansions.
“The current arrangement makes no sense. Harry and Meghan walked away from being working royals, yet they’re still using these titles and operating very much like they are working royals,” the insider explained. “William can’t understand why they are getting away with it.”
The source went on to say that Harry and Meghan are “doing everything on their own terms and not running a thing by the palace,” yet they’re “benefiting from their connection to the monarchy.”
William reportedly finds it “egregious” that his younger brother and sister-in-law “can make all this money off their royal status after everything they’ve said about the family. They want to have their cake and eat it too, and his father is just standing back allowing it to happen.”
As a result, William doesn’t want to see Harry and Meghan profiting off the royal family. “He wants to see the day, sooner rather than later, where Harry and Meghan can no longer trade on their royal status,” the insider stated. “He’s not above reminding Charles that Harry is going against what the late Queen ordered; he knows that gets to his father in a big way.”
