Getac has introduced the S510AD laptop, a rugged device designed with AMD Ryzen AI processing technology, aimed at professionals needing advanced edge-AI performance in challenging field and industrial conditions.

Meeting Copilot+ PC standards

The S510AD is the latest addition to Getac’s growing suite of laptops and tablets that fulfil Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC requirements. The laptop, powered by AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 or 7 350 processors, employs AMD Radeon 800M graphics and the AMD XDNA 2 neural processing unit (NPU), delivering on-device artificial intelligence (AI) performance rated at up to 50 trillion operations per second (TOPS) in the NPU. This level of performance supports multitasking and high-quality visuals at the point of work, while also enabling secure offline AI processing. The device comes equipped with up to 64GB DDR5 memory and 2TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage, with Windows Hello face authentication provided as standard for data security.

According to Getac, these capabilities make the S510AD well suited to organisations in the automotive, manufacturing, utilities, field services, public safety, and defence sectors. The company notes that access to real-time diagnostics, intelligent automation, and secure data handling can assist professionals in making quicker decisions and improving operational efficiency without needing to rely on constant cloud connectivity.

Field-ready functionality

The S510AD has been developed to address productivity requirements in diverse and often demanding field environments. It features a 15.6-inch full high-definition display rated at 1,000 nits, ensuring visibility in various weather conditions, including strong sunlight. The device includes a large touchpad and offers an optional multitouch screen to accommodate gloved hands or operation in rain and snow. An optional dual hot-swappable battery system aims to minimise device downtime during extended fieldwork.

Connectivity has also been prioritised, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 as standard. Optional features include 4G-LTE, 5G Sub-6, Dual SIM, and dedicated GPS, which may be specified depending on operational needs.

Durability and sustainability

The S510AD is certified to MIL-STD-810H and IP53 standards, allowing it to withstand drops from up to 0.9 metres and operate across a temperature range from -29°C to 63°C. The laptop also incorporates SORPLAS – a recycled plastic developed by Sony Semiconductor Solutions – in its chassis, with over 45 per cent made from post-consumer recycled materials. The use of SORPLAS is intended to aid energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and minimise electronic waste while maintaining the required durability for field use.

Application scenarios

Getac outlined a range of operational scenarios in which the S510AD’s features are expected to be of benefit. In automotive settings, for example, mechanics and engineers can run advanced diagnostics and access multiple camera views for quicker fault identification and vehicle turnaround. Manufacturing operators may rely on on-device AI to enable predictive maintenance and automated quality checks. For utility crews, the ruggedness and connectivity are designed to support productivity during power line or pipeline inspections, even when conducted remotely and under variable weather conditions.

Field service technicians are able to transfer data rapidly using various connectivity options, with AI capabilities intended to streamline task completion. First responders in public safety roles can benefit from real-time analysis of video and data in the field, with security features guarding sensitive information throughout the workflow. Defence personnel can leverage secure offline AI analysis, mapping, and continuous video feeds, facilitated by the sunlight-readable display and hot-swappable batteries to support operation during network outages.

James Hwang, President, Getac Technology Corporation, said, “The launch of the S510AD represents another important step in expanding Getac’s AI-rugged portfolio. Built on AMD’s latest AI processing technology, it addresses customer demand for platform diversity while maintaining the rugged reliability and sustainability they expect from Getac, helping organisations accelerate AI adoption in the field.”

According to Getac, the S510AD will be available from November.
