The Huawei Watch D2, with its micro-pump wristband, is the only smartwatch on the market capable of medically certified blood pressure measurement. Following a software update, the watch will be able to monitor blood pressure around the clock.
The Huawei Watch D2 can measure blood pressure more accurately than any other smartwatch on the market. Instead of simply interpreting data from the optical PPG sensor like on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, Huawei uses a wristband that can inflate itself using a micropump to measure blood pressure, similar to a traditional blood pressure cuff. Huawei has now released a software update that adds 24/7 blood pressure monitoring to the smartwatch.
Following the update, users can create a blood pressure schedule. The Huawei Watch D2 then reminds users to take a blood pressure measurement at predefined intervals. This cannot be done automatically in the background because the wrist must be held at heart level to obtain accurate readings. According to Huawei, this new feature helps users who struggle with irregular blood pressure spikes, such as morning or nighttime high blood pressure. After completing the 24-hour blood pressure measurement, the smartwatch displays trend data analysis and risk assessments to help users interpret the collected data.
The Huawei Watch D2 also offers a range of health features beyond blood pressure measurement, including a heart rate and SpO2 sensor, an electrocardiogram (ECG), and sleep tracking.
