Manganiello, who was married to the Modern Family star from 2015 to 2023, confirmed that he had not sent Vergara a copy of Bloodlines. When host Andy Cohen asked on the podcast whether he had heard from his ex-wife, the actor replied, “I have.”
Cohen then asked Manganiello whether he had spoken to Vergara since their divorce. “Correct,” the actor answered.
During the conversation, Cohen suggested that Vergara was unhappy with him. Manganiello reacted with a facial expression that appeared to acknowledge the possibility. He then explained that the situation may have developed before she read the book. “I think this was prior to—I think these things happen prior to anyone reading the book,” he said.
Manganiello also clarified that Bloodlines focuses on his personal and spiritual journey rather than on any one individual. He described it as “a very nuanced discussion about my spiritual awakening” and explained that he explored his ancestry and the generational trauma passed down through his family. He added, “The same things I was suffering from killed my grandmother.”
The actor went on to explain that the book examines his understanding of suffering and the human experience. “And this is—this is also how I came to understand why we suffer, why we’re here,” he said. “It’s a human experience, and that’s what the book is about, and it’s not really about anything else.”
However, Manganiello acknowledged that certain people appear in the memoir because they are part of his story. “There are characters in this book that have to be mentioned because they’re part of it,” he said.
