RayNeo's glasses app downloads offline translation models, and can use the phone's mic

RayNeo’s companion app for its AI glasses can now download translation and transcription models to the phone, and take the audio from the phone’s own microphone instead of the glasses. RayNeo AI 1.0.6 reached the App Store on October 14 at 01:42 UTC, and its release notes list the change as “Offline translation/transcription: download models; phone mic”.

Offline is RayNeo’s own word for the feature, and the company does not say how much of it works with no connection at all. It names no languages, gives no download size and does not say which pair of glasses gets the models.

Eleven other changes land in the same build

Most of the rest is housekeeping: recent-chat memory for the voice assistant, events and to-dos in AI chats, better routes and time-zone records, better AI tasks and intents, and recovery when an over-the-air update is interrupted. Glasses alerts pick up their own settings and 29 icons, and Live Cues now handles “names, terms, location”.

Two of the twelve items are repair work around the life log: fewer media errors, and fixes to captions, recording, the life log and pairing. Cloud bindings get a refresh, and RayNeo says pairing and unpairing are easier, which reads like an app still settling in.

One entry is harder to place. RayNeo lists “Pinball games increase leaderboard and feature introduction, adapted to English”, without saying whether that game runs on the glasses or the phone.

The app itself is new. RayNeo AI first appeared on the App Store on August 16, needs iOS 15.0 or later and downloads at about 570MB.

RayNeo describes it as “the official companion app for your RayNeo AI glasses” and lists a dashboard, live captions, AI summaries, a teleprompter, phone notifications and a life log among its features. Live captions are the feature it sells on translation, promising “real-time captions and translations displayed on your glasses”, and a microphone is what they run on, which is the part 1.0.6 changes.

Three different sellers ship RayNeo-branded iOS apps

The App Store gives the seller of RayNeo AI as “Falcon Innovations Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd”. RayNeo XR, last updated on September 3, is published by RayNeo Hong Kong Limited, and RayNeo AR, last updated on September 7, by RayVision AR Limited, so three sellers ship RayNeo-branded apps on iOS and nothing in the listings says how they divide up the software.

The app is also not the only way to get audio off a pair of RayNeo glasses. On October 13 an open-source project split the RayNeo iO’s two microphones into two Mac inputs with no phone involved, which is the sort of workaround that tends to appear while a first-party app is still filling in.
