A homey New Zealand pub has played spontaneous host to a performance from one the world’s biggest pop stars, Justin Bieber.
The Canadian musician visited the Duke of Marlborough Hotel in Russell on New Zealand’s north island.
Justin visited the pub along with seven companions and treated patrons by playing the free red baby grand piano, hotel co-owner Anton Haagh told RNZ.
“He was just after a few beers and some snacks,” Mr Haagh said.
After some sustenance “he just jumped on and started knocking out a few tunes.”
Haagh described the impromptu performance has “really surreal”.
Bieber wasn’t singing, just playing modern melodies on the piano after enjoying his seafood dinner which included oysters and ika mata according to ODT.
Haagh told ODT she discretely asked for anyone who spotted Bieber to relax and enjoy the moment instead of “spoil” it by taking photos.
She said the group left in the nick of time, with an onslaught of up to 40 people rolling into the venue shortly after having heard whispers of a celebrity in their midst.
The hotel holds the country’s first liquor license and its playful slogan captures it well: “Refreshing Rascals and Reprobates Since 1827”.
“Justin Bieber rocked up to a random bar up north looking like a dude that drives a Nissan Skyline,” TikToker Joe Daymond jested.
Bieber was in town for a holiday complete with golf and fishing, according to the New Zealand Herald.
In a series of photos posted to Instagram it looked to be a true-blue boys trip complete with cigars, helicopters and even a foray at a shooting range.
