Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir announced the appointment of the first head of Israel’s space force, according to a report by Walla on Monday.
The new commander previously headed Unit 9900 in the Military Intelligence Directorate. As head of the new brigade, he will oversee major projects and force development.
Defense Minister Israel Katz is aiming to accelerate the projects and streamline procurement procedures.
Brig. Gen. S. is considered a highly respected officer among the senior leadership of the Military Intelligence Directorate and the IDF.
Space has become an increasingly important frontier for the IDF, especially since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023.
