A royal commentator has questioned whether Harry and Meghan intentionally released their itinerary after a detailed plan of their anticipated movements appeared on the Nottingham Live website.

While how the website got access to their itinerary is not confirmed, according to Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English the move is hypocritical if, as she suspects, it was self-divulged.

“In light of what Harry and Meghan have said about serious concerns over their security, you have to question it,” she said.

The day before the couple arrived, Nottingham Live published their itinerary, a significant break with normal royal protocol.

“They clearly want the crowds there. Are they trying to provoke a situation where there is an incident by encouraging people to come down there, and then saying afterwards: “Look, we didn’t have the police, we can’t handle it”?

Back in 2020 the Sussexes lost their automatic, taxpayer funded police protection after stepping away from life as working royals.

Their decision to unveil their plans to the public has sparked debate about whether the public should pay for them to be protected.

“Things could easily get out of hand,” Daily Mail’s Senior Editor-at-Large Richard Kay agreed.

The debate comes after local police were forced to intervene during the Sussexes visit to Nottingham on Thursday when Hello! reported crowds blocked Harry and Meghan’s car.

During Harry and Meghan’s 2026 Australian press tour, the couple falsely stated News24.com.au breached an embargo, divulging details about the couple’s movements.

News24.com.au did not receive any information under embargo, meaning no agreement could have been broken. The information was in the public domain after being published by British media.

When approached by this outlet at the time, the Sussex publicist Liam Maguire backtracked on the statement, saying “we acknowledge that neither outlet was formally bound by the embargo”.

News24.com.au have reached out the Sussexes rep for comment over the recent debate over whether they intentionally shared their itinerary.

Whilst their circumstances have changed since the Duke and Duchess’ Australia trip, public interest around the couple has not thawed, arguably it has intensified.

“The timings are never something we’re allowed to share publicly in advance,” English also revealed.

“It really does make me question their motives.”
