For the uninitiated, the American Idol winner started beefing with the New York City store Art of Play on social media earlier this month when she claimed she was treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman and “looked at as if [she] couldn’t afford” to buy anything.
“I know what it’s like to be Molly the bird,” she wrote on Threads. The actress went on to detail her experience meeting Kelly Clarkson in 2009 when she was a host on MTV Australia, and she was “so smitten by how down to earth and funny she was”.
“After the interview I got up and left the room. But right before I closed the door, I heard Miss Clarkson say, ‘She was adorable, I just want to put her in my pocket and take her with me’, a reference to me,” she detailed.

Rose joked that the overheard comment has allowed her to empathise with Molly, the $15,000 bird, as it was something Clarkson also wanted to take home with her.

“I asked my producer if I could find a way to become really tiny so that I could live in Kelly’s pocket. My producer laughed. We left and went on to another interview, but for years I wondered what my life could have been,” she remarked.
“I feel for Molly, I really do.”
Clarkson and Rose reunited on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2021, where they reminisced about their first interview together and the Breakaway singer said she was “mesmerised” by the Aussie star.
“You have the coolest spirit, you were so chill, and your hair was really crazy cool. I felt so inadequate as a cool person,” Clarkson joked.

Rose’s post comes after Art of Play co-owner Adam Rubin did a series of media interviews and told USA Today that the online backlash has made them “afraid for the security of [their] shopkeepers”.
“Kelly Clarkson has put us in danger,” he said. “Not just people showing up in person, but our neighbours are being doxxed and review-bombed, people are getting threatened on the street, and the worst part is: we didn’t know this was gonna happen, but Kelly Clarkson did.”
He went on to invite Clarkson to attend the store again, attend one of their magic shows and give them another try because “this is an insane misunderstanding”.
“If it is this intense to be merely mentioned by Kelly Clarkson, I can only imagine how intense it is to be Kelly Clarkson every single day, but things changed when she used her platform to attack us,” he continued. “It’s asymmetrical social warfare.”
